Traditional Underpinning Mass Fill The traditional method of underpinning is where the affected structure has sections excavated in a “hit and miss” sequence to a pre-determined depth below the existing foundation. This is then inspected by local building control and each excavated pit is then filled with concrete |
Pile and Needle Beam Underpinning Mini-piles are installed to either side of the affected wall, a pocket of brickwork is then removed below ground level then a pre fabricated steel cage is installed to span over the two piles. This is then inspected by local building control and then concreted. This requires access to both sides of the wall |
Cantilever Pile and Beam Underpinning The method of installation is as per the pile and beam listed above, however by using the piles in compression and tension all of the works are carried out from the outside the property thus saving considerable costs in the removal of internal floors and fixtures. We also have a single pile option for restricted access areas. |
Piled Raft Underpinning This system of underpinning is used when it has been decided that the whole property has been affected. All existing floors are removed and mini piles installed. Pockets of brickwork are then removed and reinforcement placed as per the engineer’s specification. This is then inspected by the local building control and then concreted. |
